Tad and Micah went out into the woods Sunday to look for a Christmas tree to cut down. After walking around for 30 minutes in the snow and the frigid temperatures that were rapidly dropping, Micah finally looked up at Tad and said, "Daddy, I have an idea. Why don't we just buy a tree?"

If you're wondering they ended up finding one close to the house. It was a last minute-need to find a tree-or not have one this year-kind of time.

Maybe next year we'll buy one...

Buying a tree goes against the Christmas spirit. I will fight the power!

Could going to a Christmas Tree Farm and cutting one down qualify as the Christmas Spirit?

    :-)

    That is a good alternative.

Here is a interesting news story on this: http://n.pr/hTHxqg

Anything to make Christmas less about consumerism and more about Jesus is good with me. He was a carpenter, so you gotta figure he cut down a few trees in his time, right? Am I grasping for straws on this? I think so...

Good article. I have to have a real Christmas tree. I don't think I could do Christmas without that smell.
And I'm with you on making it more about Jesus and less about materialism and consumerism.

One of the things we do to help with that consumerism thing is that our kids only get 3 gifts from Santa. That's how many gifts the wisemen brought to Jesus.

That is just one of the things we do. Advent devotions are important here too.
    What do you guys do?
I'm sure you have some good ideas!

oh - and we have lots of tree farms within an hour of our house. You are welcome to come here and visit one next year. =)
